Week 1

This photo shows a typical governess' room in the 19th century.

At the Tate Britain we observed art showing the struggles of femininity.

This is one of the paintings we analyzed at Tate Britain.  It shows a woman lying on the ground exposed in the public covered in the white snow and doves.
At the Geffrye we observed the interiors design of typical rooms during the time our book was set.  We also had a discussion about the roles women played, such as Jane.

  1. I really like your scenic pictures this week! They really display the places a governess would be in. I also think that your painting was a good way of looking into how different a women being exposed was like to compared to today!

  2. Nice Job!! I thought your captions were direct, informative, and easy to follow in comparison to the picture. You captured some really great images as well. I think the picture you have of the Geffrye Museum is amazing.

  4. Morgan, a good start here. In your future posts, try to provide an overarching narrative in your short captions that helps us appreciate the theme of the week (for example, coming of age as a worker). See Kara's for an example of how this is done.
